Fond Memories of Dan Pen My husband and I met Dan on only a few occasions, but feel we got to know him well – and definitely enjoyed the meeting. Sara and I went through grade school together. After my family moved out of the country, sara and I more or less lost touch for the next 50 years (!). Emails sent in planning for a 50th grade school reunion let to our correspondence and a renewal of friendship. A few years ago, Dan and Sara came to visit us in Santa Fe. My husband Allan had not met either one before. We had a wonderful time hiking a little and eating a lot. We enjoyed the visit very much – and stopped by to visit them in Santa Rosa not too long after – where again we hiked a little and ate a lot. Hiking and eating lend themselves to talking – and we so enjoyed getting to know Dan. Dan and Allan had a number of coincidental similarities in their backgrounds. It’s a treat when people share a lot of the same interests (and the same politics helps too). Dan made it clear that he valued being a father very much, and that he was close to his extended family. His quiet, friendly, easy-going manner was very appealing. He will be missed by Sara and his family much more than words can say – we will miss him also and are grateful that our paths crossed.
