Service Greeting Dec. 3, 2010-12-01 Welcome Family and Friends, and thank you for coming, Every one of you is here because you meant, and mean, something to Dan, and to me. I thank you for being here for us, now, and particularly throughout the last nine months, when you made Dan’s life still very much worth living and you shored up his will to live that life….and to continue living it until the very end. We both thank you deeply. As you all know, we moved from the Midwest to the Southeast and then finally to the West coast. In each area we looked for certain essential traits…..a beautiful area, good schools, and good hearts. We found these essentials in each area. And here in Santa Rosa we found them in abundance. Our friends from Bodega Bay and Santa Rosa have what anyone would wish to have in friendships…..constancy and love through joy and hardship. Our church is one of vibrancy and intelligence. We are very fortunate indeed. As for our extended family, I want to thank my nephew John and his wife Tasha for representing my 50 extended family members who are all here in spirit and who all loved Dan. John is the son of my brother Cush whom we lost 17 years ago and we still love and cherish. We 50 family members will gather this summer on the shores of Lake Michigan for a reunion and to celebrate Dan’s life. To our immediate family….hats off to the most supportive, caring and fun family we ever could have asked for. Our son Sean and our daughter Shannon have traveled with us on all our life’s journeys and have accepted us as the trying hard but often flawed parents that we were. Our daughter in law and son in law, Kim and Scott, were loved by Dan as truly and completely family, and will continue to be so loved by me. As for the five wonders, Mason, Miah, Elle, Isaiah, and Bella, they have completed our lives and brought enormous joy and pride to Dan. They were the hardest of all for Dan to leave. Dan asked me how we would ever thank those near and far who encouraged him with emails, notes, calls, food and flowers. There is only one way to do so and that is to say “Thank you and we love you.”.
